Stranger Things

Stranger Things is an American science fiction-horror web television series created, written, directed and co-executive produced by The Duffer Brothers, as well as co-executive produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. The first season, released in July 2016, stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono and Matthew Modine, with Noah Schnapp and Joe Keery in recurring roles. For the second season, Schnapp and Keery were promoted to series regulars, along with the additions of Sadie Sink, Dacre Montgomery, Sean Astin and Paul Reiser.

Stranger Things is set in the fictional rural town of Hawkins, Indiana, during the early 1980s. The nearby Hawkins National Laboratory ostensibly performs scientific research for the United States Department of Energy, but secretly does experiments into the paranormal and supernatural, including those that involve human test subjects. Inadvertently, they have created a portal to an alternate dimension called "the Upside Down". The influence of the Upside Down starts to affect the unknowing residents of Hawkins in calamitous ways.
 
Season 1
The first season begins in November 1983, when Will Byers is abducted by a creature from the Upside Down. His mother, Joyce, and the town's police chief, Jim Hopper, search for Will. At the same time, a young psychokinetic girl called Eleven escapes from the laboratory and assists Will's friends, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas, in their own efforts to find Will. 

Season 2
The second season is set a year later, starting in October 1984. Will has been rescued, but few know of the details of the events. When it is discovered that Will is still being influenced by entities from the Upside Down, his friends and family learn there is a larger threat to their universe from the Upside Down.

Some facts about the show:

1. It was created by twin brothers Matt and Ross Duffer.

2. The Duffers auditioned 906 boys and 307 girls for the children's roles. 
And they made each kid read parts from Stand By Me in the audition.

3. Stephen King 'found' Millie Bobby Brown. 
Long before the Duffers cast her as Eleven, King tweeted his love to Brown on the British show Intruders: Millie Brown, the girl in Intruders, is terrific.

4. The Duffers convinced Winona Ryder to play Joyce during a four-and-a-half-hour meeting. 
“We actually talked very little about the show or the character of Joyce; we were mostly just getting to know each other,” the Duffers told EW. Ryder joined the project the next day.

5. Brown’s performance was inspired by E. T. 
“Matt and Ross were like, ‘Basically you’re going to be an alien,'" she told Indiewire.

6. An average of 8.8 million people watched Stranger Things 2 in its first three days on Netflix.

And 361,000 people watched all nine episodes in its first 24 hours.

7. David Harbour ships Joyce and Hopper, which he dubbed #Jopper. Don't we all, though?
