Herbert George Wells
Herbert George Wells....Who`s that ??? every lover of English literature has heard this surname at least once. So, if his surname does not sound familiar to you, it means that you should immerse yourself in English literature. NOW
This great writer, now best remembered for his science fiction novels is often called a "father of science fiction".
His novel, “Under the Knife”, tells a story of a man who suffers from depression. What is more, he is going to be operated. After the influence of Chloroform he experiences an astral journey, he moves beyond his body and the world. According to the protagonist beliefs, his soul streams through space, passes solar system, and eventually meets “ a colossal hand clenching a rod”. The culmination of the story is a narrator’s hearing a voice which proclaims that his pain is going to end. The main character wakes up and realizes that not only he has survived the operation, but his sufferance is overcame.
SO, TO SUM UP, it is a beautifully written piece of work, in part, thought provoking on the after life, what would happen, what is it like, what would you see compared to what happens to the mind and conscience whilst in surgery and your perception of the world around you.
